The inclusion of this curling stone (far right) in a collection of Manitoba rocks at the New Iceland Heritage Museum in Gimli, Manitoba may seem a bit tongue in cheek, but the sport of curling is big in Manitoba. Last weekend the team that would have represented Canada in the 2021 women's world curling championships had they not been cancelled due to COVID-19 won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts (Canada's national women's curling championship). The skip and all but one of her team are from Manitoba.⁠

On International Polar Bear Day, I'm sharing a photo I took a few years ago at the Journey to Churchill exhibit at the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.⁠ The new CBC series Arctic Vets follows day-to-day operations of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. It features expeditions to Manitoba’s subarctic, emergency animal rescues and daily life at the conservancy. The first of ten episodes aired last night.⁠
