"Remembering the Roller Rink" is one of many mura

"Remembering the Roller Rink" is one of many murals in the West End neighbourhood of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was created by Annie Bergen and Marcus Bauer in 2011 and pays tribute to the former Winnipeg Roller Rink which stood at the corner of Portage and Langside from the 1930s until 2007. The disco ball was created in secret by mosaic artist Ursula Neufeld and was a surprise, even to the mural artists, when the mural was unveiled. The roller rink was a feature of Winnipeg life for years.⁠

Part of the Folklorama 50 mural in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada painted by Mandy van Leeuwen and Franklin Fernando in 2019 to commemorate 50 years of the Folklorama festival. In a normal year we would now be in the middle of this two-week festival (which has been cancelled for 2020) with pavilions throughout the city showcasing cultures around the world with cultural displays, ethnic cuisine, souvenirs, handicrafts, and nightly entertainment by local community groups and guest artists from other countries. It is the largest and longest-running festival of its kind in the world. ⁠

In Altona, Manitoba, Canada. Altona is known as the “Sunflower Capital of Canada.” The reproduced Vincent Van Gogh sunflower painting on a giant steel easel is the work of artist Cameron Cross. Van Gogh painted a series of seven sunflowers. Cross’ Van Gogh Project will see him create several Van Gogh sculptures around the world. This was the first one erected. The second is in Australia, and the third is in Kansas, USA.⁠
