Devil May Care Brewing Company, located on Fort Street in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is the city’s smallest brewery by brewing capacity.

Taproom with long wood-topped tables

Although its taproom opened in December of 2022, it is only recently that I made my first visit to it. The taproom features large windows looking onto the street and an industrial décor. Unlike some other taprooms I’ve been to, there is no view into the brewing area. During the warmer months, there is an outdoor patio alongside the building.

The brewery is described on the website as a community space. It felt to me like a good place to get together with groups of friends. Long wood-topped tables and benches certainly facilitate that. A shelf of board games gives options for playing a game while you visit.

Devil May Care hosts a variety of events, including trivia nights, improv events, open mic comedy, music bingo, Arsenal Football Club watch parties, musical events, cribbage afternoons, and more. A cornhole tournament was underway the afternoon I visited.

Devil May Care is a small batch brewery. It brews beers across the style spectrum. Although you’ll find a few of their products for sale through the Manitoba Liquor Mart and on tap at a small number of bars in the city, most of the products are exclusive to their taproom. The list of 16 beers on tap rotates every week. This means that if you visit one week and come across a beer you really like, there is a chance you won’t be able to get it the following week, but you will have other choices to choose from.

Although the focus is on the beer, you can get other beverages such as mead, cider, some cocktails, whiskey, sodas, and kombucha. Devil May Care does not have a kitchen, but there is a small snack menu.

A glass of pilsner sitting on a table

Often when I visit a craft brewery for the first time, I have a sampler flight to try several of their beers. Although flights were available, I did not do that this time and instead opted to try the Brightwater Pilsner. It was crisp and clean and very enjoyable. Sometimes Devil May Care has an English-style bitter beer on tap, a style of beer I like but is hard to find locally. I had hoped it might be available when I made my first visit, but it wasn’t. I will have to watch the current taplist menu to time my next visit to try that and some of their other beers.
